I don’t know about you, but mnemonics sure do help me remember stuff; especially mnemonic sentences, where the first letter in each word corresponds to a word in a list I’m trying to remember.

Take this one for example:

“Peter’s Jars of Jelly And Peanut Butter Make The Juiciest, Tastiest Sandwiches. Mmmmm!”

OK, that’s really two sentences, but can you guess what Bible truth this triggers for me? If you said The 12 Disciples, you’re right!

Peter, James, John, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (Son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot, and of course, Judas Iscar…Wait…what? There’s no “M” in Judas Iscariot! What gives?

Ahh, yes, well that’s because it seemed to me that Judas Iscariot has already gotten enough pub over the last two millennia and it was about time his faithful replacement, Matthias, got a little more love. “Mmmmmm!”

Now in my opinion, the only way to make sentences like these even more effective, is to set them to music! And that’s exactly what “Sonic Mnemonics” are: mnemonics set to music. Like this mnemonic for the first 10 Books of the Old Testament: “GEL’N with DJ JR Sam”. Even sounds a bit like a song title, right?
